Tiananmen Square is located in the center of Beijing. It extends east to the National Museum of China, west to the Great Hall of the People, south to the Tiananmen Rostrum, and north to the Monument to the People's Heroes and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong.
Its history dates back to the Ming and Qing dynasties, when it served as an important venue for imperial rituals and celebrations.
In 2018, the square completed its expansion project. With a total area of 440,000 square meters, it has become one of the largest urban squares in the world.
