Jinli Ancient Street Chengdu’s Must-Visit Historic Street Gem

Hey guys! You absolutely can’t miss Jinli when you’re in Chengdu! It’s one of the city’s most iconic cultural tourist spots, brimming with rich historical charm and unique folk customs.

Location:No. 231 Wuhouci Street, Wuhou District, Chengdu. Right next to Wuhou Shrine, transportation is super convenient!
Ticket:Free entry — enjoy your visit to the fullest!
Opening Hours:Open 24/7, but it’s extra charming when the lights come on at night. Evening visits are highly recommended!
Architectural Style:Built based on Sichuan residential architecture from the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, integrated with Sichuan-style garden art. Streets, buildings, and gardens blend seamlessly — it’s like a living version of "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" in Chengdu.
Historical Origin:The name "Jinli" dates back to the Qin and Han dynasties. Back then, the government set up "Jin Guan" (Silk Official) to manage Shu brocade production, earning Chengdu the title "Jin Cheng" (Silk City). The area where Shu brocade was made was on the south bank of the Jinjiang River, and "Li" referred to residential communities in ancient times — hence the name "Jinli". It’s also one of the oldest and most commercially vibrant streets in West Shu, known as "West Shu’s No. 1 Street".
Food Recommendations:There are tons of Sichuan specialties here! Try Zhang Fei Beef, pork intestine vermicelli, leaf-wrapped glutinous rice cakes, and Three-Gun Rice Cakes at Jiupin Snack Street — every bite will satisfy your taste buds to the max.
Cultural Experiences:Along the street, you’ll find intangible cultural heritage exhibition and experience spots for Sichuan Opera, Shu Embroidery, ancient brocade weaving, and bamboo weaving on porcelain. You can also watch traditional folk performances like sugar figure blowing and clay sculpture, letting you deeply feel the charm of Sichuan’s traditional culture.
Special Activities:Corresponding events are held during different folk festivals — such as willow planting on Qingming Festival, Magpie Bridge Meeting on Qixi Festival, and Thousand-Person Hanfu Lantern Parade & Moon-Gazing Event on Mid-Autumn Festival. Join in to fully immerse yourself in Chengdu’s folk culture.
Photo Spots:The Ancient Opera Stage, West Shu No. 1 Archway, and Zhuge Well are all great backdrops for photos. Wear Hanfu here, and you’ll get stunning shots in minutes!
Jinli is truly a place you’ll never want to leave. It lets you appreciate Chengdu’s history and culture while satisfying all your food, entertainment, and shopping needs. Guys, hurry up and check it out!
