Located in Lianhu District, Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, the Muslim Quarter is right behind the Bell and Drum Towers. It’s not just a single street – but a cluster of roads including Beiyuanmen, Beiguangji Street, Xiyangshi, Dapiyuan, Huajue Lane and Sajin Bridge. Locals call this area "Fangshang".
Take Metro Line 2 or 6 to Bell Tower Station, exit from the north gate and you’ll be right in the Muslim Quarter area. You can also take buses like No. 611 or 603 to near the Bell Tower. If taking a taxi, it’s better to get off near Bell and Drum Tower Square and walk over – Beiyuanmen is often stuck in traffic.
Here you’ll find nearly 300 kinds of special snacks, letting you taste all kinds of Xi’an halal food in one stop. Try the roujiamo (meat sandwich) at Laobai’s – crispy on the outside, tender inside, with well-marbled meat. For yangrou paomo (lamb soup with steamed bread), recommend "Laomi’s" or "Tongshengxiang" – you can experience the fun of tearing the steamed bread by hand. There’s also Pangzi Zenggao (glutinous rice cake) – sold from 5:30 AM, usually sold out by 10 AM, and it’s super delicious. Grandma Hua’s sour plum soup is simmered, not instant, and you can also try the mix of sour plum soup and fermented glutinous rice.
