Today I’m sharing an amazing spot – Giant Wild Goose Pagoda North Square. Located north of Daci'en Temple in Yanta District, Xi'an, it’s one of the city’s iconic landmarks.
As one of Asia’s largest musical fountain squares, it covers over 200,000 square meters. Inspired by Tang Dynasty architectural aesthetics, the square perfectly blends traditional culture with modern urban design. During the day, sunlight shines on the brick pagoda and reliefs, creating a solemn and peaceful vibe. At night, fountains dance with lights, filling the area with lively energy.
The musical fountain is the square’s highlight, sitting on the central axis. It stretches about 350 meters north-south and 110 meters east-west at its widest. Featuring 22 independent water patterns, including frequency-variable formations and 100-meter running fountains, it’s packed with technological charm. There’s also a 60-meter-wide, 20-meter-high large laser water screen that’s incredibly stunning. The fountain shows run daily – evening is highly recommended, when lights reflect off the water, creating a dazzling and breathtaking scene.Beyond the fountain, the square boasts numerous cultural landscapes. Centered around the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, the left and right sides feature areas like the "Tang Poetry Garden", "Dharma Flower Bed" and "Meditation Forest". Sculptures such as the "Flourishing Tang Dynasty" scroll bronze carving, Ten Thousand Buddhas Lighthouse and Tang Culture Pillars all carry profound Tang Dynasty cultural connotations.
