Located in Jiayuguan City, Gansu Province, Jiayuguan Pass is the westernmost pass of the Ming Great Wall and a key transportation hub on the ancient Silk Road. Known as "the No.1 Majestic Pass Under Heaven", it was first built in the 5th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1372 AD). Composed of the inner city, outer city, Luocheng (screen wall city), Wengcheng (enclosing city), moat, and the Great Wall on the north and south wings, it’s one of the best-preserved and largest-scale passes among the existing Great Wall sites, witnessing countless merchant caravans and dynastic changes.
