The Stone Forest Scenic Area is a national 5A-level tourist attraction located in Shilin Yi Autonomous County, Kunming City, Yunnan Province, 78 kilometers away from Kunming, the provincial capital. As a World Natural Heritage and one of the first global geoparks, it is renowned as "the Greatest Wonder of the World".
The scenic area consists of five parts: Greater Stone Forest, Lesser Stone Forest, Wannian Lingzhi (Ten-Thousand-Year Ganoderma), Liziyuanqing, and Bushao Mountain. It represents the essence of global karst landforms, boasting the world’s oldest, most extensive, and most diverse community of Paleozoic karst landforms with unique shapes.
Tall limestone pillars in the forms of swords, columns, mushrooms, and towers are the typical features of the Stone Forest. In addition, it encompasses almost all global karst forms such as karst hills, depressions, sinkholes, underground rivers, and caves, forming a comprehensive panorama of karst geological landforms
